Why We Give Back

More Than Tourism

At Nomstour, we believe that travel should benefit everyone — not just visitors, but the communities that welcome them. That's why a portion of every tour goes directly to supporting education in rural Madagascar.

Working with The Antanamalaza Initiative, we're helping build schools, train teachers, and give hundreds of children access to education they never had before. When you travel with us, you become part of this story.

Building Together

A Community Transformed

The Antanamalaza Initiative began with a simple idea: what if parents helped build their children's school? Not just with donations, but with their own hands.

Brick by brick, the community came together. Parents who had never been to school themselves laid foundations for their children's future. Teachers who earned almost nothing volunteered extra hours. And slowly, something remarkable happened — not just a building, but a movement.

The fact that parents helped build the school and were given an active role in the project has made them more engaged in the general improvement of their village and their children's education.

The Impact

Changing Lives

With the help of donations and the parents' hard work, we have managed to expand the existing small schoolhouse and improve general conditions at the school, as well as running a program to educate teachers.

The daily life in the village has changed for the better as its people have been working together not only on the school building but also to improve irrigation and road maintenance to make a better everyday environment.

The most important part of the project is the coaching given to teachers and parents. We've recruited a coach who visits twice a month throughout the year. The coaching improves teaching quality and helps parents understand the importance of their children's education.

Our Progress

Milestones Achieved

July 2022

School Building Opens

We opened the main school building for the kids — a proud moment for all of us. The building includes running water, giving children access to clean water for the first time.

October 2022

468 Students Supported

Students were given basic school kits, 2 additional classrooms, 15 new benches, blackboards, and teacher equipment. Parents received training on citizenship, parenting, and environmental issues.

December 2022

First Christmas Celebration

We celebrated Christmas for the school kids — the first celebration they'd had in a very long time. We also built an ecological fence made of piled lawn, involving parents in maintaining the school grounds.

Honoring Our Past

The Original Schoolhouse

This is the original school building from 1912 — over a century of education in our community. The building has served generations of students, though it has fallen into disrepair over the years.

As part of our ongoing project, we plan to renovate this historic building as a good heritage from our ancestry, preserving the history while creating more space for the growing number of students who want to learn.

Looking Ahead

The Journey Continues

We are thankful for all the help we have received from all over the world and we're so proud of how far we've already come. It is heartwarming to see the difference it makes in our community.

The project has made more parents aware of the benefits of school, and the success has increased the number of children who want to attend. The school we've built can no longer house all the children who want to learn, so we have expanded the project and are adding another building with more classrooms and an office for the headmaster.
